Endovenous Laser Treatment
Endovenous laser treatment involves the insertion of a thin catheter into the enlarged vein (saphenous vein) under ultrasound guidance. It uses light energy to heat the vein wall and cause it to collapse and seal.
The procedure can be performed under local or general anaesthesia. Laser therapy may be combined with phlebectomy, when the visible varicose veins are surgically removed from multiple small skin incisions.
Bruising and soreness may last for 7 – 10 days after endovenous laser treatment. Normal activities, except strenuous exercise, may be resumed within one to five days. Patients are asked to wear compression bandages immediately after surgery and compression stockings thereafter for a few weeks.
