Duplex Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging is used to diagnose disorders of the arteries and veins. It is a painless, non-invasive test. During the examination clear pictures can be obtained by running a small scanner on the skin over the examined arteries and veins. The scanning takes 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete by a qualified ultrasonographer.
Patients with vein problems are investigated to find out the location and severity of valve dysfunction. It also detects blood clots (venous thrombosis) in the veins. During the venous study the sonographer may gently squeeze the calf to accelerate blood flow in the veins. Duplex ultrasound is mandatory for selecting the most appropriate treatment for varicose veins.
Duplex ultrasound also determines the degree of narrowing in the arteries of the body (leg arteries, carotids, kidney arteries etc.). It measures the size of aneurysms in the aorta and the lower limb arteries.
Progression of the vascular disease can be detected according to our testing protocols. Regular follow-up testing is recommended after every vascular intervention.
