Compression Therapy
Patients with venous disease may wear elastic support stockings or compression bandages to help keep blood flowing up from the legs to the heart. Support hosiery will not make the veins go away but they may provide symptomatic relief.
Support stockings are always used after sclerotherapy and surgery.
Compression stockings/bandages play a major role in healing leg ulcers.
Further measures may improve the symptoms of venous disease:
- Leg elevation – three to four time daily above the heart;
- Exercise – walking, swimming;
- Weight loss;
- Avoiding prolonged sitting and standing.
