Angiography
During angiography x-ray dye is injected into the artery, most frequently in the groin, through a needle or catheter, under local anaesthesia. An x-ray picture of the arteries is taken when the dye is injected. This procedure will show where the arteries are narrowed or blocked.
The most commonly investigated areas are the leg arteries, carotid arteries and the aorta.
With the development of new, fast CT scanning techniques some of the traditional angiography is replaced by the less invasive CT angiography.
